Market research: sizing data & org profiles
How big is this, and who are the organizations? These are the business-case inputs behind each
Job to be Done.
Baseline for a proof of concept: subject to change. Sizing and org profiles come from the TechSoup
market-research team’s data-enhancement work. North America is the most validated cohort; other regions
are hypothesized.
What goes here
- sizing-data.md: three views: TechSoup-served orgs (~86,000 in our network),
an extrapolated world sizing estimate (~331,000), and a breakdown by food-security dimension. We
avoid the term “TAM” (see below), describe the method, and frame it as an in-process number we can
help refine, plus “we can help you reach this market.”
- org-profiles/: organization profiles by budget size and mission, organized
by the UN’s four food-security dimensions, with a featured org archetype per region.
- org-schema.md: a reference schema for describing a food-security organization,
borrowing from the OKF (Open Knowledge Format) civic-extension sample.
- data-commons.md: a pointer for partners to explore TechSoup data themselves.
- living-atlas.md: a pointer for partners to explore Esri’s ArcGIS Living Atlas
geographic datasets themselves.
A note on terminology
We present this as: “this is the TechSoup market share in this domain; here’s how we’d survey and reach it
to get to a realistic, defined number.” It’s “art, not science” today, so we state the method and
call it what it is rather than over-claiming.
